Early Warning Cardiovascular Disease Assessment Available

Preventive Health Medical Institute (PHMI) and Dr. Ralph Sutherlin, DO, MPH, are offering carotid ultrasound for cardiovascular disease assessment.

The carotid intima-media thickness test (CIMT) is a measure used to diagnose the extent of vascular disease. The test measures the thickness of the inner two layers of the carotid artery—the intima and media—determining the “age” of the arteries. This process alerts physicians to any thickening before patients begin to show symptoms.

Through February 29,2020 Natural Awakenings readers can receive 15% off of the regular $200 fee for CIMT testing when they mention PHMI’s ad in this issue.

Sutherlin can then use this information to assess a patient’s risk and develop a medical plan—while encouraging lifestyle and dietary improvements—to prevent, halt or reverse the disease process. Also, because there is no exposure to ionizing radiation, after a period of time, patients can re-test to further measure the effectiveness of the prescribed interventions.

PHMI has a highly trained, certified CardioRisk Laboratories sonographer performing CIMT testing, having passed the vigorous double-blind, performance-based certification process. This process has been validated by the International Society of Clinical Intima-Media Ultrasonography, the only organization to certify a medical test using a double-blind, performance-based certification.
